When Will I Get My W-2? 2026 W-2 Deadline (February 1, 2027) & What’s New
If you worked as an employee in 2026, your employer must send you a Form W-2 showing your wages and the taxes withheld. You need it to file your tax return. Here’s when it’s due, where to look for it and what to do if it doesn’t arrive.
W-2 Deadline – Quick Answer
| Tax year | 2026 (the return you file in 2027) |
| Deadline for employers | February 1, 2027 |
| Why not January 31? | January 31, 2027 is a Sunday, so the deadline moves to the next business day |
| If it’s missing by late February | Call the IRS at 800-829-1040 |
The IRS confirms the date in its 2026 Instructions for Forms W-2 and W-3: employers must furnish employee copies “by February 1, 2027.”

Where to Look for Your W-2
- Your employer’s payroll portal. Many employers post W-2s online in late January, often before the paper copy arrives. See our guides for ADP, Paychex Flex, Paycom, Paylocity, Gusto, Workday, UKG Pro and Dayforce.
- Your mailbox. If you didn’t agree to get your W-2 online, it will be mailed to the address your employer has on file.
- Your email. Some employers send a notice when your W-2 is ready. Don’t click links in unexpected emails. Sign in to your payroll site directly instead.
Moved this year? Update your address with your employer’s HR or payroll team before January so a paper W-2 doesn’t go to your old home.
What’s New on Your 2026 W-2
The 2026 Form W-2 has new codes because of new tax deductions for tips and overtime:
- Box 12, code TP: the total cash tips you reported to your employer
- Box 12, code TT: your total qualified overtime pay. The IRS says employees can deduct up to $12,500 of qualified overtime ($25,000 if married filing jointly).
- Box 12, code TA: employer contributions to a Trump account for you or a dependent
- Box 14 is now split: 14a (Other) and 14b (Treasury Tipped Occupation Code)
If you get tips or overtime and these amounts look wrong, ask your employer about them before you file.
What If Your W-2 Is Late or Wrong?
- Contact your employer first. Ask HR or payroll for a copy, or for a corrected W-2 (Form W-2c) if something is wrong. Check that they have your correct address.
- Still nothing by the end of February? Call the IRS at 800-829-1040. Have ready your name, address, Social Security number and dates of employment, plus your employer’s name, address and phone number.
- File on time anyway. The IRS can send you Form 4852, a substitute W-2, so you can estimate your wages and withholding.
- Amend if needed. If your real W-2 arrives later and the numbers are different, file Form 1040-X.

Frequently Asked Questions
When do W-2s come out for 2026?
Employers must send them by February 1, 2027. Many post them online earlier, in mid to late January.
Can I file my taxes with my last pay stub instead of a W-2?
Wait for your W-2 if you can. Your final pay stub may not match it exactly. If your W-2 never arrives, use Form 4852 as the IRS explains.
Do former employees get a W-2?
Yes. If you were paid at any point in 2026, that employer must send you a W-2, even if you’ve left.
I worked more than one job. How many W-2s will I get?
One from each employer that paid you wages during the year.
Conclusion
Look for your 2026 W-2 by February 1, 2027, online in your employer’s payroll portal or in the mail. If it’s missing or wrong, contact your employer first, then the IRS after the end of February.
